Romi Machine Tools GL 250 horizontal turning centre features thermal compensation with sensors

Romi Machine Tools has introduced the GL 250 horizontal turning centre, which comes equipped with a thermal compensation system with sensors to maintain stable, dimensional results even during long working periods.

The use of sensors provides accurate, real-time compensation as opposed to compensation based on predefined algorithms. The result is more accurate machining over extended periods of time when the machine temperature increases, the company states.

The machine has a maximum cutting diameter of 11 in. and a Z travel of 23.6 in.

The turning centre has a built-in spindle motor with an incorporated chiller and direct-drive servomotors. Chilling the motor increases life expectancy and produces less thermal expansion, the company reports.

A servo-driven, programmable tailstock is controlled by the FANUC controller that determines its position, speed, and force. It also comes with a 12-station turret with the choice of fixed tools with a Romi disk, driven tools with a VDI or BMT disk, driven tools with Y axis, and dual-spindle with driven tools and Y axis.
